Young Professionals Award 2009

FRIENDSHIP SYSTEMS' team member Fabian Tillig has won the 2009 GL Award for Young Professionals. The student contest awards scientific papers from the maritime sciences and involves relevant universities and technical colleges. For the recent awarding the topic was "Increasing the energy efficiency of ships”. According to Germanischer Lloyd it is owing to the quality of this year's entries that there is no first place but two second places. One of which is Mr. Tillig's, granted a prize of €2,000. His paper, written for the Technische Universität Berlin with support of FRIENDSHIP SYSTEMS, concerned the „Investigation of a Form Feature for the Increase of the Transport Efficiency of Ships by means of Response Surface Techniques“. The jury said that Mr. Tillig's paper convinced with a high standard of independent and creative work, which it deems "crucial for the scientifically highly demanding investigation of complex optimization processes".
The second second place of the 2009 Young Professionals Award is held by student Komalavally Hariharan Sobhith from the University of Glasgow & Strathclyde for his paper on "Liquefied Natural Gas as the fuel of the future? – An assessment of the practical aspects“. The third place was awarded to Björn Jahnke of the HAW Hamburg for his paper „Vergleichende Untersuchung einer navalisierten 350kW-MCFC mit einer Schiffsmotorenanlage“ (Comparative investigation of a marinized 350kW-MCFC [fuel cell] and a ship engine system".
The award ceremony is scheduled for September 2010 during the general meeting of the Technical Advisory Board of Germanischer Lloyd in Hamburg.
