Users' Meeting Shanghai

First Asian Users' Meeting and Release Ceremony

Shanghai was the venue for the launch of the new release of the FRIENDSHIP-Framework and too for the first Users' Meeting of FRIENDSHIP SYSTEMS in Asia. On November 30, more than 20 participants from leading maritime industries and press representatives joined at the Jinjiang Hotel.

The Meeting was set up as an exchange platform for FRIENDSHIP-Framework users to discuss their experiences with the CAE software, to present latest applications and to have a look at the new release. Participants came from various maritime companies, JIANGNAN, 702 INSTITUTE, MARIC, SDA, TSUNEISHI. In addition, representatives from
SDARI, HUDONG and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) presented case studies. All presentations were vividly discussed as were the software development at FRIENDSHIP SYSTEMS and the general situation in the Chinese ship industry market.

The overall atmosphere was friendly and familiar, discussions were profound and substantial, the response from all the  attendants in the meeting was very positive. Albeit some participants had similar thus competitive business backgrounds, there was open exchange about the benefits the simulation-driven design concept yields.

It was clearly noticable that the Chinese maritime industry accepts—and increasingly implements—the parametric and simulation-driven design methodology, which is the spinal column of the FRIENDSHIP-Framework. All participants picked up the new design circumstances in green philosophy very quickly. They shift from a strong focus on "old" offsets to free variation under given (or self-determined) design conditions. Now, as FRIENDSHIP SYSTEMS' team member Daehwan Park sums up,  they can spend 10 percent of their time on the geometry and 90 percent on the performance. "Most of all", he assesses, "that is the exact answer for the needs of buyers."
