Feature technology

The FRIENDSHIP-Framework provides comprehensive Feature technology and helps designers to slim their engineering process. Features are design entities that encapsulate complex tasks. Easily defined, they aggregate several separate design steps into one simple action and speed up repetitive or tedious processes.

Within the FRIENDSHIP-Framework, Feature definitions can be automatically generated from the base model. This transforms frequently employed geometries into adjustable entities and makes them available for future use.  Automated generation minimizes the work load and accelerates the design process significantly. Feature definitions can also be encapsulated to Feature assemblies. Nesting Features provides the designer with a far clearer access to the software's functionality, slimming complexity and data volume. Nesting Features also enables the application of curve engines and meta surfaces in Feature definitions.

The technology is frequently employed for CAD Features which encapsulate simple and complex geometric features for re-use. Other popular applications are steering Features which create and start scripts and external software. Also user-defined i/o commands for parsing (string operations), reading, writing and generation of arbitrary ASCII files and user-based functions are common.

Setting-up Features is easy thanks to the command set of the FRIENDSHIP-Framework. Once created, the definitions can be documented with text and illustrations and exported for re-use within the same or future projects. Collections of such definitions can  be stored on network PCs so as to provide centralized access for different users.
