Software program
CAE system for the geometric modeling, numerical simulation, systematic variation and
formal optimization in ship design
The FRIENDSHIP-Framework is an integration environment for the advanced hydrodynamic design
of ships. It facilitates the work flow at the crucial stage of hull form development by closely coupling CAD
capability to CFD analysis. The system supports the consistent generation and assessment of variants and
offers integrated constraint management. It can be flexibly tailored to the naval architects’ individual
design environment, increasing productivity and improving competitiveness.
Features- Efficient shape variation via partially parametric modeling on data being imported from
offsets, panel meshes or iges-files (images)
- Effective type specific and fully parametric shape definitions
- Sophisticated offset handling (analysis, modification, repair) with integrated hydrostatics
- NURBS curve and surface technology
- High-level design entities (e.g. FSpline, Foils, Motion Prediction Points)
- Embedded optimization strategies for exploration (DoE) and exploitation (e.g. MOGA)
- Creation and management of both manual and driven variants
- Constraint management and screening (WatchDog)
- Comfortable browsing of project data and documentation
- Direct reporting (tables, diagrams) and easy comparison of variants
- Encapsulated pre- and post-processing for CFD solvers (e.g. potential flow codes for wave resistance and
seakeeping)
- Direct coupling to SHIPFLOW®, nu-Shallo, SEDOS
- No requirement for scripting or further programming
- Availability for Linux® and Windows®
Applications- Advanced hydrodynamic design at shipyards, consultancies, model basins and research
institutes
- Ensemble investigations, for example speed range studies, trim variations, shallow water influences
- Fine-tuning of functional surfaces such as hulls, propellers etc.
- Education in first-principle-design at universities
